Winterreise Tour with Thomas Hampson
Switzerland, Germany, Austria

Long recognized as one of the most innovative musicians of our time, baritone Thomas Hampson is the recipient of countless international honours for his singular artistry and his cultural leadership. His operatic repertoire is comprised of more than 80 roles, and his discography includes more than 170 albums, with multiple nominations and wins of the GRAMMY Award, Edison Award, and the Grand Prix du Disque.

Since his acclaimed recording of Winterreise with Wolfgang Sawallisch in 1997, Thomas Hampson has continually rediscovered Schubert, both with long-time collaborators such as Wolfram Rieger and with younger musicians who have been inspired by his unique sensitivity, nuance and insight into German song.

Franz Schubert is the focus of a concert tour that takes Hampson to Switzerland, Germany and Austria in the Spring of 2024, together with the  pianist Alexandros Kapelis. The two artists explore Schubert's creative flight of 1827 with a fresh look at the Winterreise and the Impromptus, Op. 90. Schubert's original intention was to let the first 12 songs of Winterreise stand alone. After its completion in February 1827, he composed the Impromptus for solo piano and then decided to tackle the second book of 12 poems, which he completed in October of the same year. The works will be performed in the order in which they were created, giving the audience a more comprehensive insight into Schubert's final creative period.
