Baroque Ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic

Very few ensembles specializing in early music can display a level of artistic mastery akin to that of the Berliner Barock Solisten. Comprised by prominent members of the Berliner Philharmoniker, the musicians have created a unique approach to performing works of the 17th and 18th centuries. The Berliner Barock Solisten do justice to their name, as each musician is a master soloist. They play on historic, though modernized, instruments, using bows from various periods, depending on the work being performed. This flexibility, along with the homogeneity with which the ensemble plays and the presence of leading soloists within its ranks, is virtually unparalleled internationally.

This singular approach to interpretation has reaped stupendous worldwide acclaim from both public and press. On concert stages from Tokyo to Berlin, from London to New York, the Soloists appearances have left an indelible mark everywhere they have performed, ensuring the continual growth of their fan base. The ensemble’s activities are documented on numerous CDs. It also owes its popularity to the quality of the guests artists who regularly perform with the ensemble, such as Thomas Quasthoff, Christine Schäfer, Dorothea Röschmann, Emmanuel Pahud, Albrecht Mayer, and Andreas Staier.

In 2018, pianist Alexandros Kapelis teamed up with the Berliner Baroque Solisten as soloist and is currently recording the complete concertos for solo keyboard and string orchestra by Johann Sebastian Bach, to be followed by performances in leading venues worldwide.
